LARGE BUILDINGS
(25,000+ square feet)

The Energize Denver Building Performance Policy requires buildings 25,000 sq. ft. and larger to meet an energy efficiency target based on energy use intensity (EUI) — a measure of how much energy your building uses per square foot. Large buildings can reach this target through improvements to building operations or equipment.

Large buildings must meet their energy efficiency target by the building’s assigned final target year, which for most buildings is 2032. Most buildings will also need to meet an interim target in 2028 to demonstrate progress along the way.

HOW TO COMPLY WITH LARGE BUILDING REQUIREMENTS

Manufacturing, Agricultural and Industrial Buildings

Buildings can apply for the manufacturing, agricultural, or industrial (MAI) designation when their energy use is primarily for production or industrial processes. MAI Buildings have a different path to compliance than other building types.

Compliance for Residential Condominiums

Residential condominiums can take a different path to compliance than other buildings that accounts for the complexity of individual unit owners and the variable structures homeowners' associations take.
